ポーランドに1926年に生まれたアリーナ・シャポツニコフは、ナチスによって強制収容所に送られたが、生き延びて、その後はパリと祖国で暮らした。

20代から、亡くなるまでのおよそ30年間、結核に苦しめられ、その間に、肉体をモチーフにした作品を作り続けた。

その作品も痛ましい印象を与えるが、何よりも、彼女のその人生そのものが、私に何事かを訴えかけてくる。
