第１話：沈黙とささやきに耳をかたむける Chapter 1: Listening to Silence and Whispers

音楽とは、何だろうか？　沈黙の中で聞こえてくる音とは、どんな音だろうか？

禅思想に傾倒したケージの問いかけは、現在でもアクチュアルだ。

続いての広い部屋には、ジョシュ・スミス、アグネス・マーチン、カルメロ・ベルメホ、フランキー・パレルモらの作品が展示されている。

いずれも、具象的なものではなく、白、灰色などをベースにした作品で、文字通り、沈黙とささやき、のような作品だった。

何もないところ、あるいは、ほとんど何もないところから、何かを生み出すのが、アートの持つ力だ、ということだろうか。
